This is one of types modern batik which has colorful pattern. The method of this kind of batik is quite similar with traditional batik.

1. The fabric is being designed with pattern / molani

2. Then next step is ngengrengi. Ngengrengi is the first step, where the pattern ( which desired  for other color ) covered by the wax / candle ( 1 side of the sarong )

3. After one side is done then nerusi is the step where the pattern in the other side covered by wax / candle

4. After both side pattern  ( being covered by the wax / candle ) then  bledak technique will applied. Bledak is a batik's technique to cover the background  some of the pattern of the sarong with wax / candle.

5. Then come tolet. Tolet is the step where sarong  pattern being colored. The patterns which is not covered by wax / candle colored with synthetic dyes. This tolet method only applied in one side of the sarong

6. Then next step, nglorod is technique to removed the wax / candle using boiling water.
 The background and the patterns which covered by wax / candle will have white color. But If you wish those white color have other color then the next step will continue to give wax / candle to the pattern which has been colored ( it is to protect the color from first step )  and then nest step is tolet with desired color and then back to step removing the wax/candle. This is done repeatedly until you get the required colors.

7. Last step is nganji or giving starch to make the sarong stift

1. Batik Hand writing Batik

History of Batik

  Batik is originated from the word javanese amba which means to write and tik ( titik ) means point. Batik is one way of making cloth process. Batik itself refers to 2 things which are the coloring fabric called wax resist dyeing which a method where a cloth being colored with candle ( malam ) to resist the entry of other color in order to get the desired color, while the other meaning is a fabric made with particula pattern. The colouring fabric method has existed since the 4th century in Egypt, its been proved by discovery of the mummy covered a fabric which had been coated with wax / candle.

Before batik was only a fabric which has 2 -2.5 meter and people normally usebit for particular reason such as a wedding occasion.But in this time, batik has become a trend in Indonesia. People start wearing batik as clothing, bags until slipper. Indonesia has proved that this country deserves to get the inauguration from UNESCO because batik has become an essential part of living here. Many people wearing Batik included me. Batik is very interesting valuable and high class art, not just because of the pattern and the colors which some of it has historical value and in some of places in indonesia, some of particular pattern has become a sacred and not  everybody can wear it, but the process to make batik is not just as simple as you think.
Generally batik has been divided into 2 types which are hand writting batik and hand printing batik. Of course when we are talking about printing batik, it is quite a bit easy rather than hand writting batik.
The hand writing batik is the most expensive but the price and the worth is equal because to make 1 hand writting batik, it takes 3 to 4 months. But of course, you might wonder why it takes such a long time, lets see the steps here :
